A man falls asleep. He dreams. Or rather, he remembers. He recalls exile, life on the factory floor, and a homeland ravaged by deindustrialization. A diptych set between Chicago and Dunkirk, Steel, a Tale of Two Cities traces the decline of the steel industry in France and the United States, and its impact on immigrant communities in both countries. Through the cinematic language of the photographic film, the documentary animates sound and still images to explore the power of memory, the presence of ghosts, and the echoes of a world on the brink of disappearing.
