Bourgeois, once a "brouteur" (internet scammer) in Côte d’Ivoire who dreamed of living a wealthy life, risked his life to reach Europe illegally ten years ago. Since then, he has been living in France illegally. He will soon turn thirty. Like his friend Kader, who lives in Italy, he dreams of returning to his homeland. Kader goes back, but only for a short stay, while Bourgeois finally settles in France. He gets married, has children and obtains legal papers. He now has the choice between two countries and two identities, but realizes that his life is in France. In Côte d’Ivoire he will be seen as an emigrant. In his own country as in France, he has become a stranger, a “lonan tché”, as they say in Bambara.
