by Canela Reyes & Sebastián Pinzón Silva
The great Ceiba of Liberty, a precious kapok tree that stood in the main square of the small Colombian town of Gigante, collapsed in the middle of the night. The townspeople, shaken, film the moment, aware that they are witnessing not only the loss of a symbol, but perhaps also the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy: the day the tree falls, Gigante will fall with it. Shot entirely by its own protagonists, GIGANTE is a documentary fable about the imaginary collapse of the town, a meditation on collective loss and the power of participatory cinema.
